3/7/2008

Friday February 15, 2008, Detroit Chassis hosted its third Junior Achievement Job Shadow with 20 juniors and seniors from nearby Hamtramck High School and their Economics Instructor Mr. Victor Evanoff.

The students were greeted in the lobby by Linda Ratliff, Manager – Ministry, Community Support and Customer Service, and taken to the Family Room where they were introduced to DCP staff: William Kirchmeier, VP – General Manager, Kevin Kaczmarek, Manager – Information Systems, Patricia Carson, Sr. Manager – Operations and Jerry Williams, Sr. Manager – Human Capital. Students from the Detroit Chassis Business Applications in Manufacturing Management (BAMM!) program from Davis Aerospace Technical High School (Isaac Etheridge and Billy Corder) were also present and participated in the day’s activities.

Students were given guided tours of the plant floor so that they could get a first-hand experience of the Detroit Chassis (DCP) manufacturing process.
Students were assigned by areas of interest to departments throughout DCP for job shadowing experiences including:

- Finance
- Purchasing
- Safety & Engineering
- IT Systems

Later students were treated to a tasty lunch with Michael J. Guthrie and Carlton L. Guthrie, Co-Chairmen catered by Jet’s Pizza.

Michael J. Guthrie addressed the students and stressed the importance of setting goals and developing roadmaps for achieving high performance. Students then participated in a group activity with DCP Associates facilitated by Patricia Carson that communicated the necessity of balance between competition and teamwork. This exercise provided fun and insight for all participants.

Hamtramck students were complimentary and stated that they enjoyed spending the day at DCP.
“Thank you again for your commitment to education and for allowing students from Hamtramck High to visit your plant and learn from your associates. It was a worth while experience for my students and I am sure that they gathered valuable information that they can take back to our Economics classroom,” stated, Mr. Victor Evanoff, Teacher, Hamtramck High School.

Michael Guthrie, President and CEO received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Junior Achievement for his support and outstanding contributions for more than 20 years of service. Mr. Guthrie previously served on the Boards from both JA of Mid-Michigan and Southeastern Michigan, and taught more than 30 JA classes.
