Executive Biographies

The Guthries have owned businesses in metal stamping, steel processing, manufacturing, sequencing and engineering as first and second tier suppliers to the automotive industry since 1985. Their businesses have been recognized as “Supplier of the Year” by The National Minority Business Development Council and “Michigan Manufacturer of the Year” by Impressions 5 Museum. The Guthries have been recognized as “Entrepreneurs of the Year” by Ernst & Young and the Greater Lansing Business Monthly. They were also ranked in INC. Magazine’s Inner City 100 of Fastest Growing Companies list in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Michael currently chairs The National Association of Black Automotive Suppliers (NABAS) Scholarship Fund and the Children’s Aid Society of Southeast Michigan. He was past President of the NABAS Trade Association, The Michigan Council on Vocational Education and Junior Achievement of Mid-Michigan. Michael’s board and advisory committee memberships have included the following: the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management of Michigan State University, Comerica Bank of Michigan Central Region, Lansing Community College Foundation, Lansing Community College Business/Industry Institute, Junior Achievement of Mid-Michigan and Junior Achievement of Southeast Michigan, The Single Parent Family Institute of Lansing, The Black Child and Family Institute of Lansing and the East Side Industrial Council of Detroit. Michael received the “Platinum Award” for Lifetime Service from Junior Achievement of Mid-Michigan (JA) and he has been a business classroom consultant to more than 30 JA classes.

Carlton currently chairs Concerned Christian Men Chicago, Illinois and is Past President of the National Association of Black Automotive Suppliers, Detroit. Other current and past activities include the Board of Directors of the Shorebank Corporation, Chicago, Illinois; Board of Directors of the Joyce Foundation, Chicago; Founder and Board Chair of the Single Parent Family Institute, Lansing; Board of Directors for the Centers for New Horizons, Chicago; Co-founder of the Marathon Group and the Runners’ Club, Chicago. He is a National Board Member for the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, Boston, MA, and Advisory Committee Member for the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, Washington, D.C. Carlton received the Chivas Regal Extrapreneur of the Year Award.
